Welcome to the Buried in Silence Project. This site grew out of my MFA thesis project, which was to tell the story of L.Q. Ivy with the hope of opening discussion about placing a memorial in Union County, Mississippi, my home. Over the approximately three years I spent researching the project I found that most people who had heard of the lynching did not want to discuss it. This shaped the final form of my project and it became my own narrative, presented in the form of a radio documentary. For public showing, I’ve augmented this with still images and videos in a format I’m calling an illustrated podcast. You’ll find that here along with the timeline of events and details of a lynching in a neighboring county that has been memorialized. As this project progresses I’ll be updating this section with updates, news, and relevant information.
