Elwood Higginbotham

Elwood Higginbotham was lynched in Oxford, Mississippi in 1935. You can see the details above. For decades his children did not know the facts about what had happened to their father. Research conducted by Kylee Burke connected her with Tyrone Higginbottom, a descendent of Elwood, and from there the full story re-emerged. In 2018, citizens of Oxford and Higginbottom family members came together to erect a monument. In the video below, Valerie Reeves discusses the impact of the monument on the family.
